TTEC4844 - Transmissions and Drivelines

Drive shaft

This is drive shaft, its transfer the power from transmission output shaft driving wheels of a motor vehicle.

When we removed it we have to thoroughly clean it and be sure to remove any old grease to allow the joint to be inspected properly, and inspect the universal joint surfaces, needle rollers and the yoke surfaces.

We use the dial test indicator and the two vee blocks. We put the drive shaft on and between the two vee blocks. Than set up the dial test indicator, central between the vee blocks. Make sure that the probe is set up at right angles to drive shaft. Than turn the drive shaft slowly around 360°and note the largest reading on the gauge, and usually we have to get three different place: front central and end.
